How it works
Tell us about the applicant, the recommender, and the position.
Pick a free or premium AI model.
Get a draft on screen and by email, ready for the recommender to edit and sign.
RecomBuilder has no database and does not save your answers or letters. Your answers go through OpenRouter to the selected AI provider, and your draft is emailed through SendGrid. Stripe handles premium payments. Optional Google Analytics never sees what you type. Privacy policy
Tell us about your letter
9 short questions. The details you give become the letter, so be specific.
Please keep this page open.
This is taking longer than usual. Hang tight.
Your letter draft
Not quite right?
Your answers are still in the form, so you don't need to type them again. They are kept only while this page is open.
Optional. Describe changes to the letter shown above—for example, make it longer, use a warmer tone, or give more attention to research experience. The next version will use this request and your form answers.
You can build little software tools like this for yourself easily with a vibe coding tool like Replit, or if you want it done and maintained professionally, let our team do it at AI-Driven Sites.
Tips for asking for a recommendation letter
- Ask early. Give your recommender at least three to four weeks. A rushed letter is usually a short, generic one, and good recommenders are often writing several letters at once.
- Choose someone who knows your work. A detailed letter from a supervisor who saw you solve real problems beats a vague one from a famous name. Pick the person who can describe specific things you did.
- Share your CV and the program description. Send your CV, the exact title of the position or program, and what the selection committee is looking for. Your recommender can then match their examples to those criteria.
- Remind them of specifics. List two or three projects, results, or moments they observed, with dates and numbers where you have them. This is exactly what RecomBuilder turns into a first draft.
- Offer a draft, but let them own it. Many busy recommenders welcome a starting point. Make clear they should change anything, remove what they cannot vouch for, and sign only what they believe.
- Make submission easy. Send the deadline, the submission link or address, and any required form in one short email. A polite reminder a week before the deadline is welcome.
- Follow up with thanks. Thank your recommender when the letter is sent and tell them the outcome. They invested in you, and they will be glad to hear how it went.
Frequently asked questions
What is RecomBuilder?
A free AI tool that drafts recommendation letters from details you provide. These are also called letters of recommendation or reference letters. Applicants use it to give their recommender a strong starting point, and recommenders use it to get a first draft of a letter they are writing.
I'm the recommender. Can I use RecomBuilder to write the letter?
Yes. Choose "I'm writing a letter for someone" at the top of the form. The questions then ask about the person you are recommending, and the draft is written in your voice for you to edit and sign. Check every detail and remove anything you cannot vouch for.
Is RecomBuilder free?
Yes. The standard draft is free with no sign-up. A premium draft written by one of several leading AI models costs $3, paid once through Stripe. The price is in US dollars and is the same for every premium model, including when you add files or links.
Which AI models can I choose?
The free draft uses Claude Haiku 5.5, a fast model. For $3 you can choose one of the leading models from labs such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, and xAI; the list updates automatically as new models are released, and only models with zero data retention are offered. Today the premium models are GPT-6.1 Sol ($3), Claude Opus 5.5 ($3), and Grok 4.7 ($3). Larger models usually write with more specific detail and better structure.
Can I add the job description, my CV, or links for a better letter?
Yes, with a premium model. You can add the job or program description as a file or a link, upload your CV, and add up to five other links, such as your portfolio. Files can be PDF, Word (.docx), or text. Our server reads the text of the file and the public pages you link to and gives it to the AI model along with your answers; the file is not stored, and we do not search the web beyond the links you give. These options are not available with the free draft, and they do not change the premium price. Pages that need a login, such as most LinkedIn profiles, usually cannot be read; after the draft is written, the page tells you which links were skipped.
Does RecomBuilder store my data?
No. RecomBuilder has no database, so nothing you type is saved after your request finishes. Your information goes through OpenRouter, which does not store prompts or responses, to an AI provider that offers zero data retention, so it is not used for training and is not kept after your letter is written. OpenRouter screens requests for child sexual abuse material and may keep flagged content for review. The draft is emailed through SendGrid, which keeps delivery records for a limited time; we turn off open and click tracking. Premium payments are processed by Stripe. Google Analytics measures how the site is used, only if you accept analytics cookies. Read the full privacy policy. Should I send the draft as it is?
No. If you are the applicant, give it to your recommender as a starting point; they know you and should correct, add to, and approve every claim before signing. If you are the recommender, edit it until every sentence is something you can vouch for.
Can an AI agent use RecomBuilder for me?
Yes. The form is labelled for agents and supports WebMCP in browsers that offer it, and there is a documented API for the free draft. See llms.txt.
Is RecomBuilder accessible?
Yes. RecomBuilder is built to conform to WCAG 2.2 Level AA, which meets the web accessibility standards used under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA, WCAG 2.1 AA) and required by Ontario's Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA, WCAG 2.0 AA). It works by keyboard and with screen readers, uses no CAPTCHA, and respects reduced-motion settings. If anything gets in your way, or you need your letter in another format, email info@digitvibe.com. Read the full accessibility statement.
Who made RecomBuilder?
Mohammad Keyhani, a professor at the University of Calgary, through DigitVibe (DigitVibe Corporation), a Canadian company.
What is the history of RecomBuilder?
RecomBuilder started as a simple script hosted at RecomBuilder.com. It then moved to the ZeptoFlow platform at zeptoflow.com/keyhanimo/recombuilder. On November 7, 2026, it became an independent website again at RecomBuilder.com.
How was RecomBuilder built?
With AI coding, often called vibe coding. Mohammad Keyhani described what the site should do in plain language, and Replit Agent wrote and tested the code while he reviewed each step and decided what to change. The site runs on Replit as a small, fast web app with no database, which is part of how it keeps no data.
Can I build a tool like this myself with vibe coding?
Often, yes. With a vibe coding tool such as Replit, you describe the tool you want, check what the AI agent builds, and ask for changes until it works the way you need. A small tool that solves one clear problem, like RecomBuilder, is a good first project. Review the result carefully, especially anything that handles personal information or payments.
Can I use Replit for free?
Yes. Replit has a free Starter plan with limits: a daily allowance of AI agent use up to a monthly cap, a small monthly allowance of cloud credits, and one free published app that stays live for 30 days at a time (you can republish it). Some features need a paid plan. If you sign up through this referral link, you get $20 in free Replit credits when you upgrade to the paid Replit Core plan. See Replit's Starter plan details for the current limits.
Can I hire someone to build a website or tool like this with AI coding?
Yes. Professional vibe coding services are available through AIDrivenSites.com, a DigitVibe service founded by Mohammad Keyhani. Its team builds new websites on Replit and rebuilds existing ones, with features such as booking and intake forms, several languages, and connections to the tools you already use, and it offers a free, no-obligation quote. For custom AI applications, agents, automations, and internal tools, DigitVibe offers AI-native software development.
What is AIDrivenSites.com?
AI-Driven Sites is a DigitVibe service that builds websites on Replit so you can change them by telling an AI agent what you want. It moves sites from WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, or custom code onto Replit, carrying pages and content across and setting up redirects, and it builds new sites from scratch. After launch, your team can make changes themselves with Replit Agent, or email a request and have web professionals brief the agent, check every affected page on desktop and phone, and publish. You own the Replit project, the domain, and the accounts, and every site is built to be found and cited by AI search tools.
What is DigitVibe?
